Wedding Dresses 1775 – 2014 (showing May 2014 – mid March 2015) traced the development of the fashionable wedding dress and its treatment by key fashion designers. The exhibition highlighted the histories of the dresses, revealing fascinating details about the lives of the wearers and offered an intimate insight into their circumstances and fashion choices.
Newangle was commissioned to create an AV projection incorporating photographs of brides wearing the dresses exhibited on the mezzanine floor of gallery 40. Inspired by the floral motif of a wedding veil shown in the exhibition, Newangle treated the photographs and created an animated lace-style transition. The photographs and animation were projected into the four apses of the domed ceiling allowing visitors to view both the dresses and their wearers. A celestial atmosphere was created through use of an ambient soundtrack selected by Newangle.
