The Time Galleries and Weller Astronomy Galleries are part of the Royal Observatory's recent spectacular £15 million redevelopment which also includes the Peter Harrison Planetarium and Lloyd's Trust Learning Centre.

Newangle were commissioned to create a series of audiovisual interactives that provide a hands on, learning opportunity for the broad range of the museums visitors.

The exhibits explore the different techniques used by Astronomers to explore and understand the Universe and the science behind guiding a space mission.

On a multi user table with vertical and horizontal projection visitors can listen to current eminent UK Astronomers answering questions about space science.

‘The galleries have a far more cerebral feel than the twiddling knobs and buttons ….. and there is no hint of dumbing down anywhere.’ - The Times, Wednesday May 3rd

The Astronomers Table is over four metres long with eight user areas. The horizontal area provides navigation where stunning hubble imagery cascades up to meet the vertical projected content delivery area.

Visitors can select 15 different subject areas and view eminent UK Astronomers describing the science behind the big questions about the Universe.

Other interactives include a four screen role-playing game where 3 players collaborate to launch a Space Probe.

A variety of pioneering exhibits, where visitors use unusual interfaces to interact, including a 2m scale model of a reflecting telescope, lightboxes, dials and rolling dice.
