Kew Palace
Historic Royal Palaces
back

The palace reopened to the public in April 2006 after a widely acclaimed restoration.  This new narrative lead exhibition brings alive the story of Kew Palace where the madness of George III unfolded.

Audio narrative by a well known radio writer, Jerome Vincent, is combined with film, graphics and artifacts to create a powerful story.

Three floors of the palace are open to public access, including – for the first time – the bedrooms of Princesses Augusta and Amelia which have remained untouched for nearly 200 years.

Newangle created an intimate audio-visual experience that places King George III and his family at the heart of Kew’s story.  Using surround sound and projections, images of the occupants, reflections, words and shadows appear and disappear as the visitor walks around the interior of the palace.

Projections onto the actual fabric of the building give the impression that the Palace is still occupied by the Princesses and their maid.

Kew Palace re-opened in April 2006 and was shortlisted for the 2007 Gulbenkain Prize.
