Hampton Court Palace
Suffragettes, Soldiers and Servants
back

This exhibition told the stories of the palace residents and community life after the departure of the monarchy. For the first time one of the Grace and Favour apartments was on show. Visitors could glimpse behind the scenes to learn about the lives and domestic arrangements of the residents.

Apartment 23 remained unrestored; the decaying and faded finishes are left in their original state.

Our subtle audiovisual installation allowed visitors to feel part of the social history of the palace within an atmospheric exhibition space.

Old blank spaces left by removed mirrors or paintings were filled with projected images.  Sounds and images have an ethereal quality as though the rooms have absorbed the stories over the centuries and the visitors are slowly releasing them.
