This special exhibition explored the life, love and legacy of Rome’s most enigmatic emperor, Hadrian who reigned AD 117–138.
Newangle were commissioned to create an introductory film and immersive projections for the British Museum’s temporary exhibition in the Reading Room.
The pre-show acted as an introduction and scene setter to the exhibition and was situated in the arrivals area. The programme had clear simple messages that hinted at the contradictions of Hadrian’s personality and reign that was explored in the exhibition.
The large scale projections explored the breadth of Hadrian’s empire through landscape imagery of Britain, Italy, Spain, Egypt and Israel and contrasted climates and terrains. Imagery included iconic buildings such as the Pantheon in Rome, his residence at Tivoli, and Hadrian’s wall.
